I must honestly admit that this course has introduced me to the world of Internet communities. I have always been a big movie watcher, but never really took the time to review ratings and read other peoples thoughts and opinions on movies. I must say that it kind of makes watching the movies more exciting because you are able to be a critic and it gave me a better sense of what really makes a movie good. this blog also gave me the opportunity to watch different kinds of movies because I wanted to keep things interesting so I was consistently changing the theme of the movies I was watching.
Unfortunately I will not have the time to continue my blog due to my busy summer school and internship schedule. I really enjoyed learning about my fellow classmates interest and stories of the heart. It was great to get a sense of how everyone was just my reading their writing about what went on in their lives and what their passions were. I learned many things I would have never known by following certain blogs. Thanks everyone!

Movie #9 The Transporter 3
I must say that I was definitely shocked with the reviews I read on Rotten Tomatoes about the Transporter 3. It only received 38% on the tomatometer, and received 39 fresh reviews and 64 rotten reviews! If you are into action and adventure movies, I would highly recommend it, yea the plot is a little crazy and unrealistic, but so is the one in every other action movie. A lot of the fresh reviews were praising the high speed chase driving scenes and how Jason Statham who plays Frank Martin is a good on screen fighter. Some of the rotten reviews were complaints of how usually trilogies do not always end up so good because the movies is the series tend to only get worse and never better.
For those of you who have not seen this movie here is a quick review.. Jason Statham plays Frank Martin, and he is the original transporter and has been it since the first movie came out. He is always faced with a seemingly impossible task and always manages to complete it no matter what. This time he has to transport Valentina, who is the daughter of a Ukrainian environmental official, they are holding her for collateral so that he can sign permission for Johnson (criminal master-mind behind the whole plan) to ship toxic materials into the harbor. Frank Martin is forced to complete the task because the man he recommended for the job did not complete the task therefore Johnson believes Martin is responsible.
Along the journey, there is high speed chases and Hong Kong inspired fighting scenes. Of course Valentina and Frank Martin fall in love because what is an action movie without the hero and his woman that he is saving right? In the end, Johnson is dead and Valentina's father is not tricked into signing the contract. As for Frank Martin and Valentina, well they are living life happily ever after in Europe.
I was shocked with the reviews becasue I really did think it was a good movie. I have seen the first one and I would agree nothing is usually as good as the first thing. However, I have not seen the second one so I could not compare the two, but over all I thought it was good and I enjoyed it.

Movie # 8 Role Models
The award to one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time definitely goes to the movie Role Models. I thought the plot was very comical and at the same time not anything too off the wall that would make it seem unrealistic and stupid. If you like traditional and classic modern comedies this will be right up your alley. It is comparable to Super Bad, Pineapple Express, and Dumb and Dumber.
Two friends who have a pretty dead end lives, Wheeler played by Seann William Scott and Danny played by Paul Rudd, have been working for a company promoting an energy drink for 10 years. They go from school to school trying to keep kids out of drugs and in to Minotaur (the energy drink). Danny finally has a breakdown when he is dumped by his attorney girlfriend of 7 years. He tries to run someone over with his buddy Wheeler in the company truck. They then are charged with a 30 day jail sentence, but Beth( Danny's Ex) however, saves them by substituting their 30-day prison sentence for 150 hours of community service. They must be role models for kids at Sturdy Wings. But after a single day with the weird kids, Augie and Ronnie, they begin to think 30 days in jail may not be all that bad.
According to Maxim's Movie Reviews and Opinions Blog, Role Models which was written by Paul Rudd is considered to be consistently funny and a great movie because of the plot. It would be great to see something like this happen. Two guys who do not know how to really appreciate life are transformed by two kids who have no support or any positive male role models in their lives. It was given 4 out of 5 stars.
Some of the negative reviews were that most of the jokes were about kids cursing. I definitely agree with that, but the crowd that should be watching this movie shouldn't be young children anyways. Ronnie was the main kid cursing, but if you watch the movie you would be able to see why it fit his character and why it was funny.

Movie #7 Street Fighter
I'm sure that most of you have heard of the video game Street Fighter. Well the movie Street Fighter tells the story of the legend of Chun Li. A young woman who kicks ass in Bangkok Thailand in hopes to find her missing father who was taken away from her and her mother at a young age. He is taken away by Bison and his henchman, Bison is a powerful business man who holds Chun Li's father as a prisoner, forced to do work for him. His reward is that he is allowed to see pictures of his growing daughter.
Chun Li begins her journey to Bangkok after receiving a mysterious Chinese scroll. She begins her mission to find a man named Gen and save the people of Bangkok. Gen is a man who will help train her and knows where to find Bison and her captive father. After a tragic attack from Bi sons men Chun Li and Gen become separated, there house is bombed and Gen is no where to be found.
Chun Li heads to the harbor where a shipment is about to come in on a ship called the "White Rose." This is tied with Bison and her father. Chun Li fights her way into the docks, is unsuccessful and captured by Bison's men. In the end Gen shows up to help Chun Li, as well as Nash and Maya who are Bangkok Police who have been following Bison and his men the whole time because they were being investigated for murder. Chun Li kills Bison and is re-united with her father.
According to the Internet Movie Database, Street Fighter recieved a 92% in popularity this week. A lot of the comments were about Chun Li and her kicking butt techniques. I thought that the martial arts in the movie did not look that real, I mean seriously a woman can not kick butt and beat people up like she did.
The negative comments where toward Nash, who played a detective in the Bangkok Police Department. He was played by Chris Klein, so I agree that action movies are obviously not his thing. I think he does better in comedy and Romance such as American Pie.

Movie #6 The Express
Reaching out goals and dreams is something we should never give up on no matter how tough things get or how impossible things may seem. That was the inspiration I received from the film I watched this weekend, which was The Express, the true story of Ernie Davis and the Syracuse orange men. According to Rich from the Sportable Movie Review, The Express is about a man named Ernie Davis who transforms a school (Syracuse) and captivates the nation by defying the racial barriers that so often restricted African Americans in society.
The film does exactly that, it really gave you a sense of how bad it was for African-Americans during that time and how badly they were discriminated on and off the football field. On the field was bad, depending on were the games were located. It was bad on the field by opposing fans yelling racial slurs and throwing trash and bottles at the African-American players. While traveling with the team on away games, they were always separated from the rest of the players and forced to sleep in tiny rooms on uncomfortable cots. As for off the field, fellow students would look at them as though did not belong on campus, pointing and making them seem they were from another planet. Ernie never gave up on his dreams and goals and pursued them no matter what the situation was.
The Express, was the story of a very talented African-American running back that was recruited by Jim Brown and Syracuse University. through out his years at Syracuse he helped lead the Orange men to national championships and victory in the Cotton Bowl, against their top opponent the Texas Longhorns. Through his hard determination and great talent he became the first African-American to receive the Heisman trophy. In the end of his college career, he is drafted by the Cleveland Browns and reunited with his once idol Jim Brown. Unfortunately Ernie Davis is diagnosed with Leukemia and unable to play one season with the Browns. With nothing else to do he announces to the press the awful news and has no choice but to move on from his football career. In the end he goes on to help Syracuse recruit their next star. Ernie Davis passed away at age 23.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, There's nothing remarkable about the way director Gary Fleder has brought The Express to the screen, this is a solid film that does justice to Davis' legacy. I do agree, the film was touching, tragic, and really kept you interested. it was such an inspirational story that made you wish you could have such heart and the power to let nothing get in your way. It was the great story of Ernie Davis. The film didn't have super special effects or anything that would make it remarkable aside from the story itself.

Movie # 5 My Best Friend's Girl
The human race is really funny when it comes to dating and relationships. It seems like when you are so into someone, no matter what you do they don't seem to respond, or maybe they do but not as much as you do or vise versa, the fact that someone can like you so much just seems to push you away... I never got that, I can't speak for a marriage but in dating relationships it always seems like someone is chasing the other a little more, it can never just be neutral. I guess it is natural to want something you can not have or always want something more, even when you have everything you need and more right in front of you. But anyways a side from that, I saw a super funny movie that reminded me of what I just described and It was My Best Friends Girl, with Kate Hudson and Dane Cook.
Dane Cook, also known as Tank is hired by men all over to take their girlfriends out and show them the worst time that they could ever possibly imagine so that they will run back to their boyfriends they have previously dumped. Tank's best friend Dusty is head over heels for Alexis (Kate Hudson), but she just finds Dusty to be too overwhelming and moving way too quickly. Dusty asks Tank to take Alexis out because he loves her and can not live without her, after a few weeks of dating(what a lunatic, no wonder!). However, all of Tanks pranks and horrible actions make her laugh and she is not fazed by anything. Tank and Alexis begin to have a thing behind Dusty's back until one day everything comes out. Tank and dusty lose touch for a while, but Tank keeps pursuing Alexis. In the end Tank accompanies Alexis to her sisters wedding were Tank soon realizes that the bride was one of his clients girlfriend's! When Alexi's sister tells her how horrible Tank was, she is convinced it cannot be the same person. Tank makes an awful scene at the wedding, after Dusty shows up and blows his whole cover about his job and why he really ever saw anything in Alexis anyway. Alexis never wants to see him again, but we all know what happens in the end, they make up and live happily ever after.
I really liked this film and thought it was funny, but according to Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer it has only received 16% positive reviews, a few people have mentioned that it was too vulgar and offensive leaving no room for laughs. I do agree some of the things Dane Cook did, like pretending to perform oral sex on his burrito during a date or the extensive strip club scene was vulgar and offensive and maybe unnecessary, but I guess guys would find that funny?? Over all though it was good and it really gave a good example of how the dating world works and how men and women sometimes do use each other to their advantage. I recommend watching it, but maybe it wouldn't be the best date movie.

Movie #4 I Am Sam
An unknown author said “Any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad.” This quote really stood out to me when I was doing some online surfing after watching my movie for the week. This weekend I watched the movie I am Sam, and I have to say it was one of the saddest and most touching movies I have seen in a long time. It is and older movie, but I guess I must have missed it when it came out. For those of you who have not seen the movie I am Sam, here is a short summary for you…
A mentally challenged father with the brain of approximately a seven year old is left to care for his daughter. The first years seem to go ok because Sam is able to care for his baby girl Lucy while working at star buck’s, but when Lucy reaches the age of seven her teachers believe Sam is holding her back from progressing mentally. She is taken out of his custody and with luck Sam is able to accidentally get the help of a lawyer who is too good to work for anyone pro bono. Through a struggle of fights between Sam and Lucy and tear jerking court hearings in the end they come to an agreement of joint custody between Lucy’s adoptive family and her father Sam.
My short summary does not do the movie justice; however, it really sums up the quote I mentioned earlier. Lucy’s adoptive father could be her father, but only Sam had the special touch and love that Lucy could call dad. A dad’s love for her daughter should never be underestimated, in the end Lucy wanted to be with her dad no matter what. In the end Sam’s love prevailed over his defects and mistakes. In the end things were the way they should be a dad with his daughter. In the end it was Lucy and Sam.

Movie # 3 Lake Terrace
Guillermo Infante said, "Watching a movie from beginning to end is like reading, because even though what you see are images, they are telling you a story."
Lake Terrace I thought was a great example of a good movie, that is more than just a story, but a story that could actually happen to anyone!
You might ask yourself, what could be safer than living next to a cop? Well in Samuel L. Jackson’s new hit thriller Lake Terrace, a young couple moves in next door to a single father raising his two children. It so happens that he is a cop, and at first the couple seems to feel safe until strange events begin to happen. Samuel L. Jackson begins to try and drive them out by shining flood lights in their bedroom window, paying someone to break into their home, and cutting down their trees that hang over into his property, along with many other things that would drive anyone away and be convinced that their neighbor is a sick twisted individual. The couple is a young black woman and a young white man... here is where the problem began; Samuel L. Jackson later revealed that his wife was killed in a car accident. When they found her she was with her boss who was white and having an affair with his wife. He has resentment toward the couple because of his incident and wants them out if the neighborhood ASAP, which led him to his crazy behavior.
I really liked this movie and it was also one I picked to watch. I thought Samuel L Jackson was great. He really gave off the impression of a crazy son of a bitch! He was so evil looking and I think he was a good choice for the part, although Jack Nicholson would have been a good choice to. I thought it was full of suspense and it kept me on my toes, which is a must for me to really like a movie. Another thing I really liked about the movie was that it was a real-life situation that could happen to anyone. We had neighbor problems a while back, but thank god it never got this out of hand. I have heard some people didn’t like it, but I liked it I think Samuel L Jackson made the movie though!

Movie # 2 Mirrors
It was now my turn to pick a movie to watch, and being that I like horror and chick flicks I decided to go with horror to not be so tough on my boyfriend. Either way it wasn't really fair because he doesn't like horror movies, but who said this was fair anyway! Mirrors featured Keifer Sutherland, not one of my personal favorites, but he was good in this movie. Keifer Sutherland is a retired detective who has a major drinking problem and is separated from his wife and kids, sleeping on his sisters couch. He takes the job of a security guard for the Mayflower in New York, an old department store that is a important land mark. However, he has no idea that the Mayflower to be a psychiatric ward.
His shifts are the graveyard shift, and after the second shift weird things start to happen, he sees things in the mirror, images of him hurting himself and he can actually feel it. For several weeks these strange events keep happening and Keifer Sutherland becomes obsessed. He begins to tell his wife and sister about these weird mirrors and no one believes him, obviously. He begins to realize that the mirrors are now coming after his family, so he desperately asks the mirrors what they want from him.
The mirror wants Eseker. Ana Eseker was a patient in the psychiatric ward before it became a department store, he eventually tracks her down in a nun convent in Pennsylvania. She explains to him that the doctor's treatment for many of the patients was he would strap them in a chair in a room full of mirrors and have them face their own image. The mirrors had collected many souls of the patients who had experienced the treatment. he begs her to come with him, but she resists several times. Eventually they face the mirrors and the curse is broken. However, in the end Keifer Sutherland realizes he broke the curse, but he too is trapped in the mirrors.
I really liked this movie. It sounds corny, but really it was good and I'm a tough critic. I compare all horror movies the The Exorcist, which is pretty hard to beat. I do recommend it though, it is one of the better recent horror movies I have seen.

Movie #1 Lord of War
"There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That's one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is: How do we arm the other 11? " This was said by Yuri Orlov and I happen to disagree completely with his logic, but it definitely made a pretty good action movie plot. The first film we watched was Lord of War with Nicholas Cage, this was one of the choices from my boyfriends list. The film is about Yuri Orlov who is a son to Ukrainian parents. His profession started by selling guns to mobsters in his neighborhood of Little Odessa to becoming an illegal arms dealer with his cocaine addicted brother.
They travel and sell to countries all around the world who are at war. One of his particular clients is a warlord in Africa who in the end turns out to cause him big trouble. There was always many women in his life, but he has one obsession, a model named Ava Fontaine. He becomes so obsessed with her that when he becomes a millionaire, he seduces her, lies to her about his job, and they get married and have a son. For many years Ava has no idea what Yuri is doing and he is cheating on her left and right. The end of the Cold War causes their gun sales to boom making them even more money. Off course the whole time he is being watched and trying to be caught by Jack Valentine, a detective. In the end Ava finds out who Yuri is and she and their son disappear. Detective Valentine also gives up on chasing Yuri because he comes to the realization that our nation needs someone to do the job and it might as well be Yuri. As for Yuri, he continues to sell illegal arms, sleep with women, and make millions.
Overall I have to say that I liked the movie.
My favorite type of film I would say would be comedy and horror, but for an action movie it was very good. It kept you interested the whole time. I would assume this would be very popular among guys, because of the guns, women, etc. If i had to rate it from1-10 I would give it a 7.

Playing Movie-Opoly
Movie watching is probably one of the most popular past times in the United States. People usually watch movies according to what they are into such as comedy, horror, etc. I must say watching movies is one of my favorite past times, and a lot of my free time is spent watching movies with my boyfriend and friends. There are times when we have a hard time picking movies because everyone wants to watch different movies. So I created a movie game called Movie-Opoly. The game is ideally played with two players, each person makes a list of their five favorite movies and together they must watch all ten. At the end of the viewing each person has to pick their one favorite from each others five, no matter how embarrassing the movie may be. I decided to play Movie-Opoly with my boyfriend, each of my post will talk about the movies we watched and in the end I will post our favorite selections.
